The power of words. The pleasure of photos.
Ok – sorry about the grainy photos. They were hurriedly scanned in this morning but you will get the jist, I hope.
Before I get started on guiding you through the wedding photos, I wanted to let you know who the winner is for the Oxo Kitchen Gadgets giveaway.
The last time I did a giveaway I did a random drawing to pick the winner. It is the fairest way, for the most part and everyone is in with a chance to win.
This time around, I had fully intended to do the same, until one of my regular readers left this comment below:
” I would LOVE the kitchen toys and I would stuff them in my mums’ stocking. Firstly cos she loves a good gadget, secondly cos I keep noticing her hands are ageing, I hate seeing those hands that have always been there, look older, it makes me well up. She’s young at heart and yet her body keeps changing and I want to press pause and stop her getting any older. If I won these toys I’d stuff them in her Christmas stocking along with choccies, and things to make her feel special – anything for the woman who looks after my little ones and loves them like her own so that I get to work and do the odd treat like last nights trip to the cinema to watch Jane Eyre (fab by the way, definitely worth a trip.)”
So. I decided that the Oxo kitchen gadgets should go to Alex from Chutney & Spice.
To be selfless in this world is such an admirable quality. I know exactly how Alex feels and I love how she wrote so beautifully about her Mum.
Thank you Alex for joining in the fun, and thank you all for reading WiseWords.
Now, on with the story…….
Dad died (so young at only 50) the Christmas before we wed. I know that one of the hardest things my Mum ever had to do was get herself on that plane and fly over to be with us on our wedding day.
I love this guy. The end.
Ah – Jane. Friends come, and friends go. Countries and continents divide. Jane, I miss you and you are always in my thoughts. Can’t wait to see you when you come to visit!
Seriously……..there is like 5 million photos of me laughing or smiling…..ree-diculous.
Ah – the boys and Ron chose his sister Lynnrae to be his best man. A very noble choice, methinks.
We got married in a Chapel in Niagara-on-the-lake Wine district. I was a wedding planner, he is a Chef. This was not our first rodeo. A lovely weekend was had by all.
Ron’s old boss keeping a close watch on the bride & groom.
One of my favourite shots. One of the groomsmen and one of our BFF's (Eric) almost did not make it. He was sick. He phoned the night before to say he could not come and made the bride cry. So his wife fixed him up and they arrived at the church the next day ready for action. Thank you guys. We love you and miss you. xxx
I love this freaking photo.
Another one of my BFF's and wedding planner to the stars (and me) the most gorgeous girl in the world. Christine Smart.
I did not have to do a damn thing for my wedding. Christine did it all. And with names like Christine Smart and Móna Wise – well, we had to be friends!
See – more laughing….
Oh – you know none of this would have been possible without the talent of photographer Ms. Laurien Jones. When are you coming back to the green island for a visit? xxx
This girls talent knows no end…..
A stroll though the vineyard after we spoke our vows. This, is my favourite shot of the day. Well, that and the big pumpkin.
There you have it.
Our big day. Now, off I pop to get ready for a romantic night away with the Chef.

Thanks Margaret. Heading due south for the night and looking forward to the little break from the kids :0)
Congratulations again to you both – looks like a wonderfully happy day and life together. Enjoy your romantic day and night xx
Thanks Karen. I loved leafing through all the photos. Such fun memories. xx
Fabulous!
Thanks Lorna….see you next week :0)
Awww this was wonderful to see all your great memories – congratulations!
Thanks Jenn. It was a lovely day for sure…a beautiful experience then, and now ;0)
I never knew you were a wedding planner! It sounds like you had an amazing day in an amazing place. Happy anniversary! x
Ha ha ha – see, I am not all revealing at all! I was a wedding planner for ten years. Best job ever until I became a restaurant owner which was best job ever until I became a Mum…..( ya kinda have to say that, don’t ya?)
And, following on from our previous chat earlier this morning, that is a mailing list I have not even tapped into yet!
I think in my final year I had over 500 brides (weddings) in one year! That makes for a lot of brides over ten years….
You know that theory that people get together and stay together with a partner who looks a bit like them? Not necessarily any great similarity of features or colouring, but such things as a certain openness of expression, a predisposition to be smiley, a sense of the life experience so far. Well I often observe the truth of that, as I do now in these photos of the chef and yourself. You make a fine pair. Have a happy evening.
We have grown more ‘like’ each other Mise. Heart and soul. I think our ethos has always been the same…..
Thank you for your lovely words. Off to the ball I go!
Dear Mona and Chef, just popped by to say happy anniversaries – so many good things to celebrate today. Have a wonderful evening and congratulations, congratulations, congratulations! xo
Thanks Hester. Having a very restful getaway as we speak and off for a delicious dinner later ;0)
What lovely photos Mona!! Happy anniversary and I hope you guys had a great time yesterday.
Thanks Simone. I love looking back over them myself.
Still away in seclusion with the chef. Just got back from a sunrise walk and having some coffee now.
Hope you are enjoying your visit in Weimar with Meeta.
Lovely lovely lovely! Oh so romantic then and now and I love your story to no end. Many many more years of happiness and love! You so deserve it!
Jamie… I love you. I know that you live the same kind of life with JP as I have with Ron.
I can tell from reading your words. You speak about him like he is part of who you are.
Thanks for the lovely words!
xxxxx
Such a lovely story & photographs, congratulations Mona & Chef – here’s to many more xx
Thank you so much. I am sure there will be many many
more to come! Tx for the comment.
What lovely photos and memories!
Belated happy anniversary – hope ye had a great romantic getaway
Thanks Yvonne. Just heading back to Galway now.
We had a lovely lovely getaway. Very very quiet and relaxing but of course, we end up missing the noise makers!
Enjoy the weekend xxx
Congrats to you both here too, beautiful pics. Enjoy your writing very much, when is that book coming out?!!
Caroline,
Thank you so much for your kind comment.
The book will be out sometime in 2012. I will keep you posted!
Thanks again,
Móna
What a great post, and a lovely way to mark your anniversary. Happy Anniversary to you both.
Thanks a million Collette.
Time really does fly by very fast once kids enter the picture, so we have not really made much of an effort
to celebrate. My Mum is brilliant to take the kids for a night and watch all the animals!
Thanks for the comment.
I love Niagara-on-the-Lake! What a beautiful place to get married, and what lovely photos. Have a great getaway.
Thanks Natalie. We had the reception at a place called Vineland Estates Winery. The whole region is gorgeous. The wine, the food, the people ;0). Thanks for the visit.
How lovely that your Mom was able to stay with the kids so you and your husband could spend some time *away* celebrating this Anniversary. How fun to go back and re-look at the day in all the wonderful photos and how nice for us that you chose to share them here. Love the photo of your husband and his big pumpkin…makes me think that he is your Prince Charming and that pumpkin is going to transform into your magic carriage….well, at least you got your Prince! Best wishes and may you be as in love with one another in 10 more years as you are today!
I love the one with the pumpkin too! He is my prince charming Paula. We are both very fortunate to have each other,
And work VERY hard at taking care of each other on a daily basis. Thanks for the good wishes!
Mona,
Love reading your blog, your writing style is very addictive…the Chef, the Kids, and your wonderful photography. Oh yeah, lets not forget what grabbed my attention…the mouth watering recipes. What more could a Kentucky boy ask for. Happy belated anniversary to You and the Chef!
Hi Robert,
Thank you so much for reading and commenting. We lived in Cincinnati, OH for 15 years. Where in Kentucky are you?
God, do I ever miss Clifty Farms Country ham. I will be blogging a recipe very soon for doing a nice holiday ham so stay tuned!
Thanks again for the visit!
Thank you Mona for a charming revisit to your smiley…I mean wedding day. Huge congrats. People staying together today and still loving each other is almost a miracle and I’m happy to be a witness to it.
Thank you Barb. Getting married is the easy part; staying married and in love with the same person forever is hard hard work.
We are good to each other and have perfected the art of compromise ;0)
Thanks for the visit Barb. xx
Belated anniversary wishes, enjoy the break away.
The wedding pics are great, you look so like ‘how I recall’ Cathyann
Thanks Abs. I do believe that Cathyann and Tracy have always looked more alike, but as we all, ahem, age, it seems that all three of us look more alike now, than ever.
Thanks for the good wishes. We went to Gregan’s Castle for a night of fun. I will blog about it later today :0)
Mona, I love your blog–almost as much as I love you! This made me feel so close to you this morning. The wedding pictures are gorgeous and so indicative of your future marriage. Belated happy anniversary and may you have many more. Perhaps Terry and I can plan to spend our 48th!! with you next June. The lovely Gregans Castle Hotel looks fabulous. We miss you, Ron, the children and our favorite restaurant. Have a great day and keep up the interesting writing and photography.
Aw – MarySue……… We love you both very much! You can come anytime you want. There is always a bed here for you at our house, you know that.
Sure – come next summer and holy moley were you like 9 when you got married?
Gregans was a very nice little getaway for the two of us. Just enough to clear our heads and enjoy the silence.
We miss you guys so much. I can’t wait to see you! xxxxxx
Sorry for the delay in answering your question of ” where in Kentucky are you”? I am in Newport, KY. On the wonderful Ohio river which I’m sure you knew so well. Keep up the wonderful blogging that you do so well.
Sweet. The Chef & I met at BrewWorks (Covington) years ago. It was owned by the same folks that own the Party Source in Bellevue, KY. Thanks for reading!
A beautiful bride, how I love that you’re smiling. Like in your profile pic today. Thanks for sharing this with us and the biggest, warmest of hugs for a hundred happy years more. Congrats!
Sheesh Ishay………..a hundred more years……I’ll take it!
Hard work this married business, as you well know, but worth all the giving and taking.
So worth it!
Thank you for visiting Ishay xxxx
What an absolutely lovely post – happiness oozes from every syllable
I also grinned like a loon all day on my wedding day (all of them!!) – I think that’s probably a good thing
And I LOVE that your hubby had a Best Woman! A good friend half-jokingly asked me last week if I would be his Best Woman and I am inordinately excited about it.
As you say, marriage is a whole lot of hard work and not a picnic every day, but when it works, it really works. Wishing you and the Chef many many more years just as joyful as this day.
Thanks Jeanne. How cool for you to be someones special ‘best woman’.
The Chef is very close to his sister and it made the most sense. She was thrilled to pieces with the job.
It is hard work. But, for it being so hard, the rewards are endless. We have noticed how nicer we are to each other as the years roll by.
It does get easier and better the more you ‘argue’ because you work things out …. and the making up is always fun :0)
Thanks for the visit Jeanne, I just wish it was in person xx
