How do you say ‘Thank You’?

Posted by     38 Comments    Posted under: Kitchen

Let’s keep this short and sweet. It is Friday after all and I have a floor to mop before the Chef gets home!

Earlier this year I won a trip to Germany. You can read about it here. Oxo, the good grips kitchen gadget people, loaded up our goodie bags with a strawberry huller (you know you want one) and a cool swivel potato peeler.

The prize was sponsored by Bord Bia. It was a wonderful experience for a blogger like myself and now Irish Bloggers can compete in another competition to try to win a trip to Paris right here.

Oxo Strawberry huller

Oxo also attached a cute little card to their goodies in my swag bag and asked us to email them any feedback on their products. Before you read any further, you should know this is NOT a sponsored post however the people at Oxo, who have no idea who I am, are awfully nice.

So, I sent them my feedback and guess what. They sent me a THANK YOU!

They sent me a lot of thank you’s in the form of cool kitchen gadgets. Now, I know what you are thinking – duh, if they give you free stuff then you are being paid to write about their product. Yeah, you are right, except they sent all the stuff and never asked me to do a damn thing except enjoy the toys.

What they do not know at Oxo is that I have all their products ever invented because I have been a huge Oxo fan for longer than I can remember; that is a very long time.

So, I have honestly no need for all these lovely toys.

Who wants them?

I am willing to ship worldwide. You must be signed up to receive updates to WiseWords via the email RSS on the blog. Click here and follow the instructions from Feedburner to prove you are not a spammer. I already have enough spammers, thank you.

Oxo

Oxo products – Kitchen tongs, Wine opener, potato masher and potato peeler, little measuring jug and strawberry huller (not in photo but present and accounted for).

Our anniversary is next Friday September 30th. This is the day we met (15 years ago), the day we got married, (10 yrs ago) the day we opened the restaurant (8 years ago…wah wah wah miss you guys!) and the the day we brought our son Jack home ( 6 years ago).

Last time I did a drawing I did a random number generator thing and it worked well. I have not yet decided how I will pick this winner so comments left here and on my WiseWords Facebook page will work in your favor. Just let me know why  you need these kitchen gadgets and how you think they would improve your culinary endeavors.

Good luck and if you have no idea who or what Oxo are then you can have a look here……..

Or, you can hang your head in sorrow and walk away with that awful feeling that one of your favourite bloggers has sold out to the big guy, all in the name of a free potato peeler.

Have a great weekend!

  • Hi! I just came here as a courious persona and I enjoyed the reading! It is really like a chat between two friends! Really nice about the dates – all in the same day! Congratulations!!!

And yes, when we get a Thank You message, nowadays too much forgotten… Anyway, it is really nice. And if the thanking message comes with nice gifts… So sweet!!!

I love IoM and all about it grab my attention, so Wise Móna did it as well!!!

    Greetings from Brasil!

    • Hi Ana,
      Thanks so much!

  • So – all the same date… how often do one of you forget your anniversary? :-)

Although I do have a funky electric potato masher… would be very happy to give a loving home to the OXO variant.

    - S

    • An electric potato mashed? Seriously, what has the world come to? Can you post a photo of that fade get on my WiseWords page for us to see it? Or a little video to show how effortless is makes your potato mashing? Do I need one of these?
Why do you have fancier toys than I? Glad you like Oxo… They are brilliant….

  • A huge congratulations to you, lovely Mona, on all of these special dates and anniversaries. Wow how well you coordinated each and every one! And aren’t the OXO people just so special!? As fabulous as their products. I love OXO goodgrips utensils, just love them. They are indeed everything they claim to be and I would absolutely be thrilled to receive this prize. Stunning. You are so generous… and I don’t think you have sold out at all. I so enjoyed working with OXO and our other wonderful, generous goodie bag sponsors of Plate to Page and because I really do love and believe in their products I feel no shame or hesitation in lauding those products. Especially such great kitchen utensils! These would find a loving, warm home if sent my way. Perfect!

    • Aw thank you Jamie xx
We feel the same way. Some products are keepers and in this case, I can’t keep them because there are too many duplicates.
The potato masher is one of my favourites – indestructible….

  • Oh, sorry, yes I receive e-mail alerts for each and every one of your fabulous blog posts!

    • Thanks Jamie…
I think I finally got everyone ‘fixed’ in the Feedburner box. That was a hard lesson to learn…when moving a blog from
      Wordpress to self hosted. ….

  • What a great giveaway, Móna! I’m a fan of Oxo kitchen goodies too. You have so much to celebrate on Sept 30 – hope it’s a brilliant day for you! x

    • Thank you Kristen.
We do have plans to get away for the night without kids
and I am excited about it ;0) Somewhere local ish
and somewhere I have wanted to try for ages.
Will blog-all-about-it. Thanks for the visit.

  • Hulling strawberries, mashing spuds, drinking wine, turning steak all these items from OXO (which I thought was gravy oops!} would all make my dining and cooking experience the better. Thanks for sharing

    • Ha ha ha – I know about thinking it was gravy all too well. I am not sure, but think they might be connected and have branched out.
      Thanks for reading!

  • Congrats on that bevy of anniversaries, Mona, Chef Ron and the rest of the Wise family.I hope you are all celebrating BIG!

Look at those gleaming OXO goodies. They make me ashamed of my gadget collection – potato peeler on its last legs, measuring jugs are so worn that liquids are pure guess work. Will happily make space for these :)

    • Thanks Hester. The Chef & I are sneaking away for a bit of ‘quiet’ time next week and I would be lying if I did not
say I was very much looking forward to the break. Do not be ashamed of your kitchen gadgetry….they have served you well and helped you create such beautiful
dishes. I know that you would indeed give these gadgets a good home.

  • having all of your special occasions on the same date is very handy , and speaking of handy ………..anyone who owns anything from oxo good grips will know how handy they are and how great the quality is , all other tongs should be banned

    • Thanks Declan. I feel the exact same way about the banning of all other kitchen tongs.
We shall start a revolution, ok?

  • Wow that is very handy all your important dates together, handy but an expensive time of the year I’d say hehe. WOuld love to win any of the utensils, spent last few years popping out babies and only getting back to my cooking and baking, got 3 very helpful under 4′s to help too :)

    • Well, handy it is for sure. He has never forgotten our anniversary and was the one to load it up with ‘all the extras’…..
Well done you on all the babies! I am sure you have a mountain of help now. It gets easier when they are out of nappies!

      • Potty training the twins will prob drive me potty hehehe

        • Ha ha … Rather you than me. I am glad those days are behind me ;0)

  • Congrats Mona on reaching your 10th wedding anniversary. I’m heading for my 29th anniversary and I can’t believe how quickly the time flies.I also have a ‘significant’ birthday coming up in November, so not too long now…
These lovely shiny new kitchen tools would be the perfect replacement for my well worn kitchen tools. Many a meal have been lovingly prepared with them. Aren’t the people from Oxo just wonderful to have rewarded you like this.
keep up the blogging. It’s very informative and enjoyable.

    • Thank Marion. Wow. 29 years. Well done. I am sure all your worn out tools have served you well! The people at Oxo
stand behind their products and yes they are really nice too ;0)

  • A lovely thing to get from a company, and the pure word of mouth from this adds so much to their value, I would seriously think about buying their products after this.

    • Thank you Deirdre. They do deliver a solid product. We are very hard on kitchen gadgets and my husband has no time for flimsy cookware.
We have had and used their products for ten years now and they just keep coming up with very handy items!
If you sign up to the blog via email you will be in with a chance to win these! Thank you for reading and commenting!

  • Germany sounds like fun. Happy Anniversary to you on all accounts, what a special fateful (is that a word??!!) day for you all.
I would LOVE the kitchen toys and I would stuff them in my mums’ stocking. Firstly cos she loves a good gadget, secondly cos I keep noticing her hands are ageing, I hate seeing those hands that have always been there, look older, it makes me well up. She’s young at heart and yet her body keeps changing and I want to press pause and stop her getting any older. If I won these toys I’d stuff them in her Christmas stocking along with choccies, and things to make her feel special – anything for the woman who looks after my little ones and loves them like her own so that I get to work and do the odd treat like last nights trip to the cinema to watch Jane Eyre (fab by the way, definitely worth a trip.)

    • Oh Alex. A girl after my own heart. These little gadgets are perfect for any hands but certainly would be well taken care of by you and your Mum.
Thanks for popping in for a visit Alex. xxx

  • I’m not entering the give-away but think it’s lovely that you are doing it. Just want to wish you a Happy 10th Anniversary (just in case I forget on the 30th) So neat that so many important dates in your family all land on the same day. So, all the best for a wonderful Wedding Anniversary, Anniversary of the Day You Met Each Other, Happy Birthday to Jack and Congratulations on the Anniversary of your Restaurant Opening.

    • Thanks Paula. It is nice to have a lot of special occasions all on the same day. My husband was the one that ‘loaded it all up’ and has never forgotten
any of the events because of how convenient it is!
Thanks for the best wishes. I always look forward to it.

  • O lol Mona… you always make me laugh; even if you’re just talking about Oxo stuff… I am not entering the giveaway by the way as I have most of that stuff myself already, so no need for any more to jam into our overcrowded kitchen… And wow, you’re 10th anniversary…!
Unfortunately the liqorice will most likely not make it in time for your anniversary. It would have been a nice little give otherwise…!

    • Thanks Simone,
Quite a few foodies are already fans and have their drawers full.
I hope the next batch of goodies to giveaway is more desirable ;0)
Looking forward to reading more on your London break! xxx

  • I found your site on the weekend and have been greatly enjoying it… The writing is fun, and I love reading about your ducks, chickens, etc. Unfortunately my own attempts at a food blog have been overrun by life… In any case, my husband and I love to cook and the Oxo set would be a marvelous addition to our (rather small) kitchen.

    • Thank you Janet. Glad you found my little blog.
The kids and the animals keep us very busy and we have a very laid back lifestyle here in Galway.
I hope you get back on the blogging bandwagon. Let me know if you do and I will pop over for a read.
      Thank you for the comment!

  • I am desperately in need of these ggadgets. For many reasons, the first being that as a poor, poverty stricken student my funds do not stretch to any of these swanky gadgets. As a result, I have succumbed to “borrowing” gadgets from home and bringing them back up to college with me. When that idea failed ( I received an angry phone call from my mother in the midst of making a birthday cake wondering where the whisk was…) and as a result of bringnig them back to their admittedly rightful owner I am living on a horrible college diet. These Pot Noodles are getting tedious now…

    • You know, you do sound like you need a few new tools for your kitchen!
Unfortunately the prize has already been allotted to one of our readers.
Thank you for reading and commenting and best of luck with the next goodie giveaway!

  • Oxo to the max my lady. How lovely of you to give your stash away. And funny, as always.
As for the synchronicity of all those special dates- how amazing! Thinking of you.

    • I love the Oxo toys, as I am sure you do too :0)
The Chef is to blame, or thank, for loading up our day with extras. He figured he would never forget the day we met if he made it even more important
like our wedding day etc etc …. he is a bit of an auld sap. All mush.
Hope you and J are well xxxxxx

  • HAPPY ANNIVERSARY (albeit a little late!!) darling!! And oooh could I love my strawberry huller more?? It is such a nifty little gadget that really works – a do all OXO’s wonderful products!

    • Thanks Jeanne,
We do love the gadgets in this house, but only the good ones that last a long time. The ones you would not dream of leaving
behind when you move countries and continents. Oxo gadgets are keepers for sure.
      Thanks for the visit :0)
